This brand new, three day, professional development course for instrumental and singing teachers has been devised and created by Paul Harris and Richard Crozier. It will include presentations, small group discussion work and action-research. Through these activities, teachers begin to understand how their work compares with that of their fellow teachers, and are guided toward ways to improve their effectiveness. The course is designed to refresh and stimulate you in your work as a music teacher, offering you new ways to approach your work with children, young people and adults and to become a Virtuoso Teacher.

Paul’s work on simultaneous learning, first revealed in The Music Teacher’s Companion (ABRSM, 2001), has led to a series of publications in which he has developed these ideas. The use of video, to aid the process of reflection, is a proven way to develop best practice, and underpinned the Certificate of Teaching (CT ABRSM) course that Richard was responsible for devising whilst at ABRSM.

During the weeks between Days 2 and 3, delegates are invited to engage in the preparation of a case study of one or more of their pupils, to help focus their understanding. Through making a video recording of one of your lessons you will be able to receive constructive feedback from Paul or Richard, and share your teaching with fellow delegates.

The full course fee is £260 per delegate, which includes: three full study days at Bury Farm; light refreshments and lunch on each study day; individual feedback from Paul or Richard, and free parking.
