Richard taught clarinet for many years and worked as tutor with Avon Schools Symphonic Windband. He offers consultation lessons on clarinet and saxophone for students, children, young people and adults, beginners or more advanced, and those preparing for exams. | Richard played clarinet, saxophone or keyboards in numerous bands, orchestras and theatre shows, and was MD on the Edinburgh Fringe for two years and conductor of the Keynsham orchestra, choral groups and rehearsal big bands. | |

| Richard is the author of Offbeat, a practical guide to pop and jazz for GCSE (Heinemann 1987), co-author of Carousel, a primary music scheme (Ginn 1996), co-author with Paul Harris of The Music Teacher’s Companion (ABRSM 2000), project director with Nigel Scaife for All Together! (ABRSM 2004) and author of Musical Instruments for Children (Hamlyn 2007). He has written articles for magazines including Music Teacher, the ISM journal and ABRSM Libretto. | Richard is a highly entertaining speaker, and has addressed conference audiences in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Singapore, Jakarta, New Zealand and the UK. He has frequently been engaged as a keynote speaker, for example, at the 2008 Federation of Music Services north of England conference held at the Sage Gateshead. Richard frequently leads continuing professional development study sessions such as the Berkshire Maestros summer term training day in Reading (2012), and more recently at the 2012 Musicians’ Union conference in Cambridge. | |
